Background & Recording
After the punishing experience of recording Iowa, Slipknot approached their third album differently. They parted ways with producer Ross Robinson and brought in Rick Rubin, one of rock and metal's most celebrated producers, whose influence pushed the band towards a cleaner, more dynamic sound.
The result was a record that retained the band's aggression but introduced genuine melody, acoustic passages, and a broader sonic palette. Corey Taylor's vocal range was showcased more fully than ever before, and the songwriting reflected a band that had matured without compromising their identity.
