The Nothing is Korn at their most emotionally exposed. Released on 13 September 2019 via Roadrunner Records, the album was written and recorded in the shadow of profound personal loss — and it shows in every track. It debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and was widely praised as one of the band's strongest records in over a decade.
Background & Recording
The album's emotional core is inseparable from the tragedy that surrounded its creation. During recording, Jonathan Davis's wife, Deven Davis, passed away in August 2018 following a long battle with addiction. Davis channelled his grief directly into the record, making The Nothing one of the most raw and personal albums of his career.
Produced by Nick Raskulinecz — who had previously worked with Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, and Rush — the album strips Korn back to their essentials while incorporating atmospheric, cinematic textures that give the grief room to breathe. Guitarist Brian "Head" Welch described it as the band's most honest record.

Key Tracks
You'll Never Find Me is a haunting, atmospheric opener that sets the album's tone perfectly — grief rendered as heavy music. Cold became the lead single, a driving, melodic track that showed Korn hadn't lost their ability to write a hook. Finally Free is perhaps the album's emotional centrepiece — a devastating closer that Davis has described as a farewell to his late wife.
Legacy
The Nothing reminded the world that Korn are capable of genuine artistic depth. It's not just a heavy record — it's a document of loss, survival, and the strange comfort of making music in the darkest of times. For fans who had drifted away during the band's more experimental mid-period, it was a powerful reminder of why Korn matter.
