The Fratellis Cancel 20th Anniversary Tour Due to Singer’s Illness – What Fans Need to Know

Scottish indie rock favourites The Fratellis have announced the cancellation of their highly anticipated Costello Music 20th Anniversary Tour, citing ongoing health issues affecting lead singer Jon Fratelli.

The decision comes just days before the band were due to embark on a UK-wide run of shows throughout February, many of which had already sold out.

Why Has The Fratellis Tour Been Cancelled?

In an official statement released by the band, The Fratellis confirmed that Jon Fratelli has been advised to take time away from performing due to ongoing health concerns. While no specific diagnosis was disclosed, the band made it clear that the decision was taken on medical advice and was unavoidable.

The statement emphasised that Jon is unable to perform at the level required for a full tour and that prioritising his recovery was essential.

“With a wee bit of time we’ll do what we did then… whatever it takes to get back onstage as quickly as possible.”

Which Shows Were Affected?

The cancelled dates included 17 UK shows, with 15 dates already sold out, highlighting just how strong demand was for the tour. Among the affected performances were two headline hometown shows at Glasgow’s O2 Academy, which were set to be a major highlight of the anniversary celebrations.

Fans who had secured tickets do not need to take immediate action.

Will The Tour Be Rescheduled?

Yes. The band has confirmed that the Costello Music 20th Anniversary Tour will be rescheduled, with new dates to be announced as soon as possible. Importantly:

🎟 All tickets will remain valid

📅 Fans will not need to rebook

🔔 Updated dates will be shared directly via official channels

The Fratellis also reassured fans that they are just as disappointed as their audience and are committed to celebrating the album properly once Jon has fully recovered.

Are Any Fratellis Shows Still Going Ahead?

Yes. Despite the cancellation of the February tour dates, summer festival appearances are still planned to go ahead, including the band’s appearance at Glasgow’s TRNSMT Festival in June.

At present, these performances are unaffected and remain part of the band’s 2026 live schedule.

Why Costello Music Still Matters 20 Years On

Originally released in 2006, Costello Music marked the explosive arrival of The Fratellis on the UK indie scene. The album:

Peaked at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart

Produced enduring hits including Chelsea Dagger and Whistle for the Choir

Led to international touring success

Earned the band the 2007 BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough Act

Two decades on, the album remains a defining record of mid-2000s British indie rock and a cornerstone of The Fratellis’ legacy.
