Why System of a Down Are Still One of the Greatest Live Bands on Earth
System of a Down formed in Glendale, California in 1994 and spent the late 1990s and early 2000s redefining what heavy music could sound like. Albums like Toxicity (2001), Mezmerize and Hypnotize (both 2005) remain some of the most inventive, politically charged, and sonically adventurous records in rock history.
Their live shows are legendary for their intensity, unpredictability, and the sheer force of Serj Tankian's vocal performance alongside Daron Malakian's guitar work.
