About Siouxsie and the Banshees
Siouxsie and the Banshees were formed in London in 1976 by vocalist Siouxsie Sioux and bassist Steven Severin. Emerging from the punk scene, the Banshees quickly developed a more sophisticated and atmospheric sound that drew on psychedelia, art rock, and Middle Eastern music. Their classic lineup also included guitarist John McGeoch and drummer Budgie.
Siouxsie Sioux's striking visual style — dramatic eye makeup, spiky black hair, and avant-garde fashion — made her one of the most iconic figures in alternative music. The Banshees' influence can be heard in virtually every gothic, post-punk, and alternative band that followed them, from The Cure to Placebo to Paramore.
