About Genesis
Genesis were formed in Godalming, Surrey, in 1967. The classic lineup — Peter Gabriel (vocals, until 1975), Phil Collins (drums, vocals), Tony Banks (keyboards), Mike Rutherford (bass, guitar), and Steve Hackett (guitar, until 1977) — created some of the most ambitious progressive rock of the 1970s. Following Peter Gabriel's departure, Phil Collins steered the band towards a more accessible pop-rock sound that brought them global commercial success in the 1980s.
