About Johnny Cash
John R. Cash was born on 26 February 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas. He rose to fame in the mid-1950s on Sun Records alongside Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins — the so-called Million Dollar Quartet. His early hits "I Walk the Line" and "Folsom Prison Blues" established him as a unique voice in American music.
Cash's career spanned six decades and produced some of the most enduring recordings in American music history. His late-career collaborations with producer Rick Rubin on the American Recordings series introduced him to a new generation of fans and produced his celebrated cover of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. He passed away on 12 September 2003, aged 71.
