About System of a Down
System of a Down were formed in Glendale, California, in 1994 by Armenian-American musicians Serj Tankian (vocals), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass), and John Dolmayan (drums). Their music is deeply influenced by their Armenian heritage and is characterised by rapid tempo changes, complex arrangements, and politically charged lyrics addressing war, genocide, and social injustice.
System of a Down were one of the most commercially successful heavy metal bands of the 2000s, with their albums Toxicity and Mezmerize/Hypnotize both debuting at number one in the US. They remain one of the most streamed metal bands in the world.
