Formed in Pasadena, California in 1972, Van Halen became one of the most explosive and influential rock bands in history. Built around the virtuosic guitar work of Eddie Van Halen, the flamboyant showmanship of David Lee Roth, and the thunderous rhythm section of Michael Anthony and Alex Van Halen, the band redefined what hard rock could sound like.

From their self-titled 1978 debut — which introduced the world to Eddie's two-handed tapping technique on "Eruption" — through the commercial peak of 1984 and beyond, Van Halen produced some of the most electrifying rock music ever recorded. They sold over 80 million albums worldwide and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
