Deep Purple have had more lineup changes than almost any other major rock band — seven distinct configurations across their career. But when most fans talk about Deep Purple, they mean one lineup: Mark II. Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, Jon Lord, and Ian Paice — the five musicians who recorded In Rock, Fireball, and Machine Head, and who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
Celebrate their legacy with our officially licensed Deep Purple merch or visit the Deep Purple band hub.
Ian Gillan — Vocals
One of the greatest rock vocalists of all time. His performance on Child in Time remains one of the most celebrated vocal performances in rock history. He also sang Jesus Christ on the original Jesus Christ Superstar recording in 1970.
Ritchie Blackmore — Guitar
One of the most influential guitarists in rock history. His riff on Smoke on the Water is the most recognisable in rock; his solo on Highway Star is a masterclass in speed and melody. Wear his legacy with the Highway Star T-Shirt or the Machine Head Album Cover T-Shirt.
Jon Lord — Keyboards
A classically trained musician who brought a Hammond organ sound to hard rock that nobody had heard before. His playing on Lazy and Highway Star is extraordinary. He passed away in 2012, leaving behind an irreplaceable legacy. The Vintage Logo T-Shirt is a fitting tribute to his era.
Roger Glover — Bass
The melodic, inventive bassist who also became an important songwriter and producer. It was Glover who noted the phrase "smoke on the water" after the Montreux fire. He remains with the band today. The Logo Embroidered Wristband is a subtle nod to his understated but essential contribution.
Ian Paice — Drums
The only member to have appeared in every Deep Purple lineup. A technically superb drummer who has held the rhythm section together through every incarnation of the group since 1968. Celebrate the full band with the Bubble Logo T-Shirt or the Logo Button Badge Pack.
The Other Lineups
Mark III — with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes — recorded Burn (1974) and Stormbringer (1974). Mark IV brought in Tommy Bolin for Come Taste the Band (1975). Each era has its champions.
